Anti-mullerian hormone (AMH for short) is a substance produced by special cells in developing ovarian follicles. It’s produced in highest quantities by small follicles in their resting phase (Each of these follicles contain an immature egg that can potentially develop and ovulate in the future). We then use the amount of AMH produced by these small follicles as a way to measure the amount of resting/remaining egg supply, also known as “ovarian reserve.”
**
Now, just because your levels are "high" or "low" does not guarantee any sort of fertility outcome but is just part of your overall picture.

AMH > 2.0ng/mL has a good prognosis for pregnancy
AMH 1.0-1.9 has an intermediate prognosis
AMH <1 has a poorer prognosis

**
AMH is ultimately influenced by the quantity and quality of the follicles present and must be interpreted in the context of the total patient picture.

High AMH? Could it be great ovarian reserve or PCOS? Low AMH - signalling low reserve or poor quality follicles?

Nutrition matters!
**
There are a lot of things during a babies development that our outside of our control. However, nutrition is one way we can give ourselves and baby the best outcomes both today and tomorrow.
**
When we talk about pre-natal nutrition, it's not just a conversation about what to avoid: Take one bite of something and your IVF transfer won't stick. Take one bite of that and there goes your chance of conceiving this month. In truth, when our bodies are given the proper macro and micronutrients it needs, it becomes more resilient to the ebbs and flows.
**
What's one simple change you can focus on today?
Protein! Protein is literally the building blocks for creating human life. Research shows that most women aren't get anywhere near the appropriate requirements. Aim for 20g of protein with each meal and that's a great place to start. (FYI: 1 egg = ~ 7g of protein, so one egg and toast isn't enough!)

Now, I'm not a fan of how the pill is used - thrown at every female health complaint - BUT let's set some rumours straight. No, the pill does not CAUSE your infertility.
**
But how come you and too many people you know have struggled to conceive after coming off the pill?
**
That's because the pill does not fix your hormones. **SAY IT AGAIN FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK ** It does not solve whatever issue encouraged your Doctor to prescribe the pill. For many women, it simply masked the symptoms so that the hormonal issue still exists when you come off decades later.
For example, you have debilitating period cramps that we suspect is endometriosis or you haven't got your period in months and have been diagnosed with PCOS. While the pill can absolutely help reduce your period pain and can bring on monthly withdrawal bleeds, the fact remains that you're stuck in the same boat when you come off.
**
So what's a girl to do? I am not demonizing the pill. There is a time and place where it can be helpful. There is actually some research around the pill helping to preserve fertility by reducing the likelihood of tube scarring from endometrial lesions. What needs to shift is having an informed conversation about the pro's and con's of the pills use. We also need to be using that time while on the pill to actually uncover and fix the underlying issue so that it's not a concern when we are trying to conceive.
